The FEWA Lab interest in wildfires continues to grow. 2023 will see primarily student led wildfire modelling projects that will examine wildfire smoke emissions and wildfire danger indices to help improve our understanding of fire using numerical tools.
One of the projects within this work will build upon collaborations with the Air Quality Research Division of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) and utilize ECCC’s wildfire flight made in 2018 that FEWA Lab PI, David McLagan, was a part of, as a case study for examining existing wildfire smoke spreading and chemistry models against some of the best in-plume wildfire emissions data that exists.
This is a potential growth area and complements the FEWA Lab’s measurement-based wildfire projects that are currently in development. Let us know if you are interested.
